IN HONOR OF
WORLD HUNGER EDUCATION:
HEIFER INTERNATIONAL & THE CHURCH SCHOOL
The Christian Education Committee will be coordinating a field trip to Heifer! The youth in our Church School program of God’s Garden, Growing in Faith is planning to visit the local Heifer International farm in Rutland, MA, hopefully on Sunday, October 10. Drivers are needed, so please volunteer with Cindy Lou on Homecoming Sunday, September 12.
May God bless us with a restless discomfort about easy answers, half-truths, and superficial relationships, so that we may seek truth and love deep within our hearts.
May God bless us with anger at injustice and oppression, so that we may tirelessly work for justice, freedom, and peace.
May God bless us with the gift of tears to shed with those who suffer from pain, hunger, or loss, so that we may reach out our hands to comfort them.
And may God bless us with enough foolishness to believe that we really CAN make a difference in this world, so that we are able, by the Spirit’s power, to do God’s will.
As adapted from a Franciscan Blessing and shared by Bob Phillips at Church Council last year.
FAITH, HOPE, & LOVE FELLOWSHIP:
TUESDAYS, 2:00 - 3:30 P.M.
The group would like to invite you to join them whether you knit or not. They meet on these Tuesdays: weather permitting. Inspired by the knitting of prayer shawls, this is a time of “sharing and caring” in the spirit of faith, hope, and love, please consider coming once or every week to get together with new and old-time friends of the church.

CHURCH WORLD SERVICE:
A RAINBOW OF CARING
The Church World Service blanket drive held in connection with Mother’s Day in May took in $815. These familiar gray wool blankets arrive in areas where victims have lost homes, families, and hope. The Tools of Hope Program creates a rainbow of help and hope each time the right tool is placed in the hands of people in need. If it empowers people and brings better tomorrow, it’s a tool of hope! A simple truth: ordinary things that we often take for granted like…blankets, clean water, education, tents, garden tools, seeds – can make a world of difference for people devastated by tragedy, as well as those working to build a better life for themselves and their community. Many congregants were part of this beautiful rainbow of caring. During fellowship hour on May 2 & 9, we had the opportunity to make a $5.00 donation and receive a card to honor someone special on Mother’s Day. Thank you for the generous way in which Payson Park Church responds each year to this mission initiative.
“I was a stranger and you welcomed me,
I was naked and you clothed me.” Matthew 25

Are you seeking way to serve people in need in your area? Do you shop and cook? Do you have a few extra dollars after your weekly expenses? Can you spare a couple of hours, once a month? Do you enjoy the fellowship of church friends and grateful people? If so, please consider joining the faithful church volunteers who cook and serve a hot meal, once a month, to approximately 75 men and women at a church in Waltham. The Bristol Lodge Food Kitchen serves a daily hot meal to needy people, not all of whom are homeless, and we have been volunteering there for many years. Here's how it works: You can volunteer for once or twice a year or for every month. Sign up on the Mission bulletin board (next to the church office) and take a recipe. Buy the groceries needed to feed 12 people and prepare the recipe at home. The recipes are easy and the costs range from $20-$28. Deliver the food to Waltham or someone else can do it for you. Serve the meal if you are available. Feel good in knowing that you have reached out to your neighbors and that you have nourished them. Speak to Cynthia Lasker with any questions. THANK YOU!
The Bristol Lodge Food Kitchen serves a hot meal every day to about 75-85 men and women at a church in Waltham. A few of these people are homeless but most of them are just seeking ways to survive on their meager incomes. All of the guests are very grateful for the nourishing food and the hour of fellowship. We cook a meal once a month, usually consisting of a one-dish casserole, a tossed salad or vegetable and dinner rolls. We also provide beverages (no desserts). Menus are posted on the Mission and Outreach bulletin board outside the church office. Each person buys the ingredients to serve 12 people, prepares the meal at home, and either delivers it to the Waltham church or has another person deliver it. You can prepare the entire menu for 12 or just part of the menu. Expenses for the entire dinner range from $25-35. You are welcome to stay to serve the meal. You may also donate cash toward the beverage expenses.
Please see the bulletin board for recipes and in order to sign up to cook—for one month or for more. This is an easy, congenial and rewarding way to assist our neighbors in need. Please consider volunteering for this outreach opportunity.
One of the great opportunities offered in Christian community is to gather together for support and prayer. This group for caregivers provides a time of confidential sharing for those tending to the physical, financial, and emotional needs of loved ones near or far away. If such a support group would be valuable to you, mark your calendars for Thursday, September 18 at 6:00 pm. and join Lael Atkinson and others in the Pastor’s Study for an hour of sharing and prayer. Caregivers unite: a YOU night for caregivers!
Contact The Reverend Lael Atkinson at 617-484-1542 for more information.
Would you like to honor a loved one? Each Sunday our altar flowers are given in honor or remembrance of those we hold dear. This program also offers us a chance to reach out to those in our congregation who are sick or shut in, as flowers are then delivered by our pastor or a deacon. If you care to make a donation, please speak with Cindy Lou Benson, our Administrative Coordinator at 617/484-1542 or email at office@paysonpark.org. For those who participate in this program annually, please confirm you wish to continue.
